The Royce Discovery Centre in the Harry Brearley Building is part of the School of Chemical, Materials, Biological and Engineering and is one of the Henry Royce Institute facilities at the University of Sheffield. Our research facility contains equipment ranging from metal processing and forming and additive manufacturing to materials characterisation and testing.
The building has a large open plan, double height workshop on the ground floor, with powder storage room and metal preparation lab, as well as 7 laboratories on the 2nd floor which are; Basic characterisation, Advanced characterisation, Materials Chemistry, X-ray, Nano characterisation, Laser and Raman.
The Building is a swipe-access only. If you're looking to gain access here, there are two things you will need to do:
For front door access, you need to complete the general building induction. Please go the RDC Building Induction page to submit this.
Once you have completed the RDC building induction, you will then need to complete an induction for each specific lab or workshop you are looking to gain access to. (If you have previously completed the building induction but are looking to request access to another lab, you can skip step 1) Please see the Inductions & Building Contacts page for instructions on access.
