Health and Safety is very important. All students and staff must comply with the University's Health and Safety Policy. It is the duty of every person to take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of all other persons who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions. There is also a legal duty to use safety equipment in a proper manner and not to abuse or misuse it.
The Departmental Safety Officer within the Psychology Department is Sharon Keighley (s.keighley@sheffield.ac.uk)
Details of the qualified First Aiders for the Psychology Building are provided on signs posted around the building. Ask the persons named, or at the ground floor Admin Office (ICOSS Building), if you need anything from the Department’s First Aid Box.
The University’s Health and Safety Policy requires that all First Aid treatments as well as all incidents, accidents, dangerous occurrences and ‘near misses’ should be reported within 24 hours using the online form at: www.sheffield.ac.uk/hs/accident.
It would be helpful if any accidents or injuries could also be reported to the Departmental Safety Officer (s.keighley@sheffield.ac.uk) or the Head of Department (psy.hod@sheffield.ac.uk).
If you are in the Psychology Building when the alarm sounds you must leave the building at once by the nearest exit. You should then make your way to the assembly point, which is St George's Churchyard.
Do not congregate outside the Psychology Building.
If you discover a fire, break the glass in a red fire alarm point to sound the fire alarm, or telephone:
4444 on an internal telephone.
(0114) 222 4444 from a mobile phone
Testing of the fire alarm will take place in the Psychology Department at 10.45 am on Mondays. You do not need to vacate the building at this time unless the alarm sounds continuously for longer than approximately 30 seconds.
