Feedback on all forms of written coursework will indicate the main strengths and weaknesses of the submitted work, and highlight ways in which performance can be improved. In accordance with the University’s Principles of Assessment, students will normally receive written feedback on coursework within 3 weeks of submission. The 3-week period does not include vacation weeks, except for the Summer vacation.
The purpose of the feedback is to offer you critical and constructive advice in respect of future work, not to allow revision of the work submitted. Marks and comments will be provisional in the sense that they are subject to confirmation by the Examination Board at the end of each semester.
You can expect to receive feedback from assessments online, via Blackboard. Please note that individual feedback is not provided for online examination, cohort feedback will be available following the exams period on Blackboard.
Instructions on how to access grades and feedback are available on the Turnitin and Blackboard submissions page of the university website. See also the section on TurnItIn Submissions in this handbook for more information.
If you have trouble understanding the feedback for a particular piece of work or how to learn from it, then we recommend that you attend a feedback clinics to discuss with a member of the academic team.
Feedback at university is part of a transition towards self-reliance and independence in learning that will be important in future employment. Effectively engaging with the feedback that you receive throughout your degree is an important way of developing your skills and maximising your academic attainment. The feedback that you receive at University will probably be different from the feedback that you received at school. You will be taught by a large number of tutors across several modules and feedback will be provided in many different ways and so it might be difficult to know when you're getting feedback and who to ask for more. To support you in engaging with feedback, you therefore will be able to book into personalised feedback clinics through by booking an appointment through this link.
These feedback clinics are one-on-one meetings with a member of academic staff from our department during which you will be able to get advice and discuss your plan to improve your work by effectively using past feedback, such as that which you now have for your Semester 1 studies. We've put together a brief document, with examples, that outlines how to best engage with this process (linked here). Make sure to read this document in full ahead of booking into a feedback clinics, but in short you should:
Locate the feedback that you have received during your course so far and identify 3 main feedback points, bearing in mind the advice in the document above
Write down these feedback points in a feedback action plan (linked here) and detail strategies or resources that you will use to address this feedback
Book into a feedback clinic and bring along your feedback action plan for discussion
