You may apply to change your choice of optional modules after the semester has begun, but this must be done by the end of the SECOND teaching week of the semester.
Students must register for 120 credits in each academic year. Where possible students are advised to take 60 credits in each semester.
University regulations permit a minimum of 40 credits in one semester but students should consult with their Personal Tutor before embarking on such an arrangement.
If you have selected an academic year optional module and you wish to drop it then you MUST drop it in the add/drop period at the start of semester one. You will not be permitted to drop an academic year module in semester two because half of the module will have been taken by then, regardless of whether or not there has been any assessment during semester one.
An overview of the specific dates that the add-drop portal will be open this academic year can be found here
This is referred to as 'Add/Drop'. This process takes place online.
Submit your choice online before the deadline, by the end of the 2nd teaching week of the semester.
The relevant Level administrator will approve or reject your module choice(s) online depending on any space or other restrictions.
If your module change is approved it will show up in your module choice record. You should check this record for updates on approval as you will not be informed by email.
If your module change is rejected you will receive an email, which will also include the reason for rejection.
Once your module choice has been approved then the Blackboard entries for those modules will automatically be updated as well, enabling you to access the Blackboard sites for the new modules you have chosen.
If your module change involves another department then a representative from that department must also approve your online choice and so it may take a few days longer.
You are ultimately responsible for checking that your module choices have been fully approved and that nothing is left pending.
NB. If you obtain verbal permission to join a module but you don't complete Add/Drop officially online then you will be registered for the wrong examinations and might not have the correct number of credits to move into the next year or to graduate.
