A more detailed description of our work...
SunSat is a student-led satellite development team consisting of over 50 engineers from the University of Sheffield. We are a part of a greater University community known as the CCA, run by University Engineering faculty that officiate and act as a parent company. Our main mission is to research, test, develop, and optimise modular CubeSats capable of servicing a variety of possible payloads, with the intention of implementing various aspects of conditional monitoring and management to allow for controlled scientific experimentation. These conditions will include temperature, pressure, air quality etc. By using this platform, experiment development time may be reduced, allowing for faster, more efficient, and more affordable study of space and its effects.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, SunSat has undergone a large expansion by increasing our membership 5-fold to a team size of nearly 60 members. With this, the scope and variety of roles have also increased, introducing a new Operations sector consisting of dedicated Outreach/Marketing, Finance/Analyst, Safety/Workshop Technicians, and ED&I/Sustainability Officers. This has allowed engineers to focus solely on CubeSat design and development, as well as giving us access to a greater range of possibilities when developing and governing our CubeSats. Each mission has a dedicated and tailored team, ensuring high efficiency, quality, and potential for further innovation.
