As part of our work for Festival of the Mind, we have been working with two film makers, Kouer Niu and Xuan Zhu, both students at the University of Sheffield. They had a tricky job, working on three separate, but related tasks:
On the one hand, they followed the rehearsal process for our work with our young performers, as we collaborated to turn the data from the project into a performance. They filmed rehearsals and interviews, both in the run up to the project, and on the day itself, creating a documentary for the project as a whole. They also filmed the entire performance as a standalone film, to preserve it in its entirety. Finally, they each chose one piece of data that spoke to them, and turned it into a mini film of about two minutes' length. You can see both these films below. Kouer and Xuan have very different personal styles as film makers, and we wanted to make sure that they had the space to bring their own creativity to the project.
