Guidelines on Module Choice
Module choice is made in accordance with the Programme Regulations. Each year is composed of 120 credits worth of modules. Credits should be split evenly between semesters, with no more than 70 credits in each semester.
The Education Support Team will approve your choices once you have submitted them to the online system. If you have chosen a module in a different School, this will be approved online by both staff at our School and the School which owns the module. If your module choice is not approved, you will receive a message via the online Module Choice system, or via email, depending on the complexity of the situation.
You will have the opportunity to change your options via the module add/drop system at the beginning of each semester.

Intensive Language Pathway (60 credits)
The intensive pathway includes 60 credits of intensive language learning - which means taking 50% of your modules in one language (Chinese, Korean, or Japanese) across 3 modules. This equals about 8 hours per week of classroom time studying language. If you choose an intensive pathway for Level 1, you must enrol in all 3 classes for the whole year. It is only possible to change your pathway at the end of Week 2; after that you cannot change your pathway or modules until your second year

Flexible Pathway (60 credits)
If you are not doing an intensive language pathway, you can choose the flexible pathway where you can choose to study 1 or 2 languages (Chinese Korean or Japanese) at a less intensive pace (3 hours per week). If you do 1 language, then you can do 2 other content classes - Inventing Traditions and Thinking Cross-Culturally. You will have the choice to change your modules up until Week 2, but after that you cannot change for the year.

A student may choose a minimum of one or a maximum of two East Asian languages at a standard pace.
