Our work

The group works on all aspects of alloy developement and characterisation, providing insight into structural-property relations and tackling challenges faced by key industrial sectors.

The Group takes it name from the ancient practice of Alchemy. Alchemists where the first chemists working to turn metals into materials with more valuable properties, specifically base-metals into gold. As Modern Alchemists - we work to create new alloys with superior material properties for important industrial applications.

Guided Alloy Design

Using computational methods to design new alloys for a host of purposes

Additive Manufacture

New materials for additive manufacture

Materials for Atomic Energy Applications

Novel alloys, including High Entropy Alloys, for radiation damage tolerant atomic energy applications.

Advanced Characterisation

Development of advanced scattering and characterisation methods
