Maker{Futures} at the Children's University Gold Awards

At the end of the summer term Maker{Futures} attended two very important ceremonies for children who have participated in extracurricular activities. The Children’s University ‘Gold Awards’ are for those who have spent 100 hours or more in learning activities outside the normal school day, such as after-school clubs, visits to museums, and outdoor engagement.
Why the celebration?
Extracurricular engagement has a proven positive impact on attainment, positive identification with school, confidence and resilience. Unfortunately, many children lack access to extracurricular activities and miss out on the chance to grow beyond the classroom. Children’s University is interested in creating a level playing field of opportunity and opening up access to children from all backgrounds.
How does Children’s University support extra curricular activities?
The Children’s University validates learning providers such as Maker{Futures}. Upon completion of activities with validated learning destinations children collect credits in their Passport to Learning which is a record of their growing skills and interests. Reach 100 hours and children are invited to a ceremony to mark their achievements.
We were at the Gold Awards on the 21st and 22nd July, putting on activities for the children ahead of their graduation style ceremony. There was a brilliant atmosphere and we loved meeting all the award winners in their hats and gowns!
Does your child enjoy reading?
If your child has a Children’s University Passport to Learning, they can earn up to 6 CU credits for completing the #SummerReadingChallenge with The Reading Agency and Sheffield Libraries.
