Three undergraduates summer joined the lab this summer
Thanks to funding from the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) scheme, two undergraduate students spent 6 weeks in our lab, primarily under the watch of Sophie. In addition, the Royal Society funded a third student for 12 weeks under the supervision of Alex.
The projects were very diverse ranging from bacteria-bacteria interactions through to microbiome analysis of low input hydroponics systems. They grew tomatoes, Brassica rapa, pak choi, and other leafy greens. Danai collected lots of cell lysate producing some cool colours and even more interesting results on cell envelope hydrolysis potential in soil bacteria. All three student collected some nice data and has definitely given the lab plenty to think about going forward.
We wish all three the best very of luck with their future studies and than them for their hard work!
