Project aim
The project aims to enhance our understanding of how the library can become an inclusive space for blind students, with a particular focus on enhancing level one of the Information Commons to support students as they develop their information and digital literacy.
Objectives of the project:
to horizon scan and collate examples of inclusive library practice for blind students, through an annotated bibliography and reflective document
to evaluate current provision at the University of Sheffield Library and make recommendations for developments that will enhance the library experience of blind students with a particular focus on library inclusive learning and information and digital literacy
to develop guidance for the PIAF Tactile Image Printer
to review support for pre-entry blind students, making recommendations to enhance the pre-entry library skills offer and identify specialist 6th form centres, both locally and nationally where this offer could be shared
to document project reflections and disseminate findings through a presentation at the July all library staff update and a digital resource for the University’s Education Conference 2024
