Current

Economic Analysis and Policy (ECN130): This full-year module covers the principles of micro and macro-economics, providing students with fundamental tools for modelling and analysis.  We apply these tools to current economic problems; students are encouraged to think about what the relationship between model assumptions and conclusions. Students are encouraged to think how they as future economists can contribute to tackling important issues and big questions.

Best Lecturer Award for 2021/22, 2020/21, and 2019/20 academic years (voted by Sheffield Economics students).

Previous

Applied Microeconomics (ECN217): In this module we study the economic approach to understanding difficult social problems including inequality in outcomes, inequality in opportunities, racism, and domestic violence.

Econometrics (undergraduate): Econometrics for undergraduate students focuses on linear methods including OLS, classic panel data techniques (fixed effects and random effects), difference-in-differences, and instrumental variables. Students are introduced to the concept of identification and encouraged to think about the use of assumptions in the face of imperfect data.

Econometrics (graduate): Applied econometrics for graduate students seeks an in-depth understanding of econometrics for causal inference. The focus is on linear methods including panel data techniques (fixed effects, random effects, random coefficients), instrumental variables, experimental and quasi-experimental estimation strategies. We also cover classic non-linear estimation methods. Applications focus on recent literature.
