We were delighted to host Dr. Seyed Hamidreza Ghaffar from the University of Birmingham at the School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering, University of Sheffield. His visit sparked insightful discussions around our recent advancements in 3D concrete printing, with a particular focus on sustainable housing solutions for low-income communities in South Africa.
We were pleased to welcome Dr. Hisham Hafez from the University of Leeds, Abrar Gasmi from Université de Picardie Jules Verne, and Madeline Rihner from the School of Clinical Medicine and Biosciences (CMB) at the University of Sheffield to our research team at the School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering.
This visit offered a great opportunity to exchange ideas and explore potential collaborations in key areas such as:
🟢 Life Cycle Assessment of 3D Printed Concrete
🟢 Modelling of 3D Printed Concrete
We also showcased our recent breakthroughs in 3D concrete printing using environmentally friendly cementitious materials—demonstrating new possibilities for low-carbon, sustainable construction.
Dr. Nematollahi was invited by Professor Pawel Sikora, President of the Polish Association of 3D Printing in Construction (Polskie Stowarzyszenie Druku 3D w Budownictwie), to speak at the industry-focused "FutureBuild3D" conference in Warsaw, Poland.
🎤 His presentation, titled “3D Concrete Printing Using Geopolymer as a Sustainable Alternative to Portland Cement”, presented key insights from our ongoing Royal Society-funded research at the School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering, University of Sheffield. He also shared perspectives drawn from over eight years of work in this exciting and evolving field.
The event offered a valuable platform to engage with pioneers and innovators from across the construction and manufacturing sectors—including representatives from COBOD International, Holcim Polska, GLOBTANK, VINCI Construction, ATLAS, UltraTest GmbH, and more—who are collectively shaping the future of sustainable building through advanced 3D printing technologies. 🌍
