Dr. Anthony Haynes was born in Derby and educated at John Port School, Etwall. He obtained a first class BSc(Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Exeter in 1986 before undertaking a PhD in organometallic photochemistry at the University of Nottingham (1986-89) in the group of Profs. Jim Turner and Martyn Poliakoff. In 1990 he joined the group of Prof. Peter Maitlis at the University of Sheffield as a BP Chemicals Postdoctoral Research Fellow, investigating the mechanisms of catalytic carbonylation reactions. He was appointed as BP Chemicals Lecturer in Homogeneous Catalysis in 1993 and promoted to Senior Lecturer (2002) and Reader in Inorganic Chemistry (2009).
