Details:
Created a device to prevent barnacles growing on boat hulls, leading to a £40,000 contract with the British Navy
In 1811 patented a piling for bridge foundations that she allowed others to use for free as they were in the interest of public safety
Had the idea of planting trees on railway embankments to stop soil erosion
Her family held a total of 10 patents
Had a patent for a fire hood, an early version of a range hood
