Have you ever wondered how Government Policy decisions are made?
The Social Sciences Employability team are hosting a Policy Challenge day delivered by Sheffield's own DWP (Department for Work and Pensions). The day will give you practical experience of real-world policy decision-making and insight into careers across a range of Government departments including Education, Health, and Justice.
When? Wednesday 4 December 10.45am-3pm
Where? The Cornerstone, Wave Building, 2 Whitham Road

No past knowledge of Civil Service or Policy required - just an interest in learning more, and a willingness to take part in group discussions
Meet and chat to DWP professionals about their career paths and working for the Civil Service in Sheffield
Skills that will be developed: negotiation, team work, commercial awareness
Build your confidence and experience to help you apply for internships and other work experience opportunities
Please note the Civil Service nationality requirements for most job roles -
In summary, only nationals from the following countries (or associations of countries) are generally eligible for employment in the Civil Service: the United Kingdom (and British protected persons), the Republic of Ireland, and the Commonwealth. Certain EEA, Swiss and Turkish nationals are also eligible for employment. Section 1 of the Guidance contains detailed provisions on verifying an applicant’s nationality and thus their eligibility for appointment to the Civil Service. For further details see this guidance.
