Reflections from delivering a large scale IPE event

EDIPE - Equality, Diversity and Inclusion - Interprofessional Education

- Present IPE as an ideal framework for the delivery of EDI workshops and training

- Evidence based approach to healthcare specific EDI learning 

- The aim of training is to develop learners knowledge, skills, and attitudes to deepen learners understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion principles and their practical application within interprofessional teams

Interprofessional Education Event: Simulation with PAs and NAs 

• Consider how to prepare and execute an IPE event with another profession. 

• Review our approach to an IPE simulation event with PAs and NAs and methods used to demonstrate impact. 

• Consider the implications of the IPE session on this group by reviewing a pre-and post survey. 

• Explore the impact of this IPE on the PA students professional identity and belonging by reviewing focus group discussions. 

Promoting clinical relevance through small group case-based learning

• Identify the difficulties students face when engaging with complex PBL cases

• Compare and contrast PBL and TBL, recognising the benefits and limitations of each approach.

• Utilise key theories such as Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development, Cognitive Load Theory, and Constructive Alignment to structure effective learning experiences

• Develop structured co-teaching models involving subject specialists and experienced educators to enhance student learning.

• Share best practice for reporting, discussing and managing student issues around professionalism, progression and wellbeing 

Understanding Standard Setting and Basic Psychometrics - ensuring valid exams

• Understand Angoff and borderline regression approaches.

• Consider how we best phrase, and use, global judgements in OSCE

• Understand core psychometric concepts and how they can be used to aid understanding of item, and exam, validity

Detective Medicine: Clinical Critical Analysis

• Learn about how students can engage in a (potentially) multi-professional activity

• Participate in a student activity which is aimed at encouraging critical analysis following a clinical incident

• Reflect on how clinical governance, clinical investigation, and quality improvement can inform students in relation to the development of their own clinical and non-clinical skills and allow them to differentiate themselves within the medical workforce.
