Maria Fsadni outlines how journalists can safely and sensitively engage survivors of 'honour'-based abuse, using a survivor-focused, trauma-informed approach that ensures individuals feel supported, informed, and able to make their own decisions about participation. Developed with the University of Nottingham’s Rights Lab and Karma Nirvana’s Survivor Ambassador Panel, this work draws on lived experiences of survivors to improve media practice. Maria encourages journalists to use the Media Advocacy Toolkit, for guidance on survivors’ priorities and the importance of transparency.
