What to keep in mind when using social media:

• If you use social media you are sharing a part of your life—whether personal or professional—to others. 

• Always consider that your content can exist forever and will be available to everyone depending on your privacy settings and the platform. Posts are permanent and it should be assumed that all platforms lack privacy.

• Civil disagreement is acceptable and healthy when presented in a mindful and respectful manner. Hostility and insensitivity are not. Consider how you word your posts to express your opinion and what language you use. 

• Keep in mind that anything you say online becomes part of your digital footprint, for which you are responsible. Before you post something online, you should consider the effect your words can have on people with differing opinions, and how the words you write today could affect you—and your professional reputation—in the future.
