Need access to a lathe or mill for a personal project, co-curricular project or just want to learn or hone your skills?
The Machine Shop is now offering an opportunity to access our lathes and mills under the expert supervision of our staff.
Turning
Who Is It For?
Whether you are a pro turner or never used a lathe before we are opening our doors to you. Full training will be provided for every user.
What Can I Make?
If this is your first booking then you will need to complete the turning introduction workshop. Our staff team will train you in the operation of a lathe to manufacture a turned component.
Once your training is complete you will be able to book to independently use a lathe. If you have your own designs to manufacture then your can do this under the watchful eye of our staff team. If you need inspiration then we have some projects that you could do!
When/Where are they happening?
Every Wednesday from 13:30 - 16:30 in the Machine Shop in the Diamond
How To Book
There are 10 spaces available per week - 5 for the 'Intro to Turning' workshop and 5 for 'Advanced' workshop
Bookings are on a first come first served basis
If this is your first session or you are completing one of our projects then just turn up (promptly!) and enjoy
If you wish to work on your own project and have completed the training then you need to upload an engineering drawing of the component that you want to make prior to the session
Follow the QR Code and book using the Google Form for the week that you want to attend
Milling
Who Is It For?
Whether you are a pro miller or never used a mill before we are opening our doors to you. Full training will be provided for every user.
What Can I Make?
If this is your first booking then you will need to complete the milling introduction workshop. Our staff team will train you in the operation of a mill to manufacture a t-bolt.
Once your training is complete you will be able to book to independently use a mill. If you have your own designs to manufacture then your can do this under the watchful eye of our staff team. If you need inspiration then we have some projects that you could do!

Every Wednesday from 13:30 - 16:30 in the Engineering Applications Workshop in the Diamond
How To Book
There are 9 spaces available per week - 6 for the 'Intro to Milling' workshop and 3 for 'Advanced' workshop
The 'Intro to Milling' workshop might take multiple weeks
Bookings are on a first come first served basis
