Frequently Asked Questions

What happens in my first session?

Your first session is always free, just so you can check you actually like it before buying membership. When you arrive, tell someone on the committee you are new. They will make you do a swim test (2 lengths of a pool - if you can't complete it no worries you can wear a BA) and a deck test (they will show you what this is and how to do it).

Do I need my own boat?

No, absolutely not! The club has loads of boats to lend to you.

What about other kit?

The club has plenty of BAs, spray decks, paddles and wetsuits, all things you will need for a whitewater trip. However, we recommend that you get fleeces that you can use for layers as UK water is cold.

What do I wear to a pool session?

We recommend wearing swimming costume, shorts, t-shirt whatever you feel comfortable in and remember to bring a towel.

What do I bring on a whitewater trip?

For every trip you will need:

For some trips, look on your trip information sheet to find out whether you need:

However the trip leader should always give you a kit list.

How much do the trips cost?

Trip costs depend on a number of things - petrol, entry costs, accommodation, duration. It's worth speaking to committee if you have any concerns about financing trips.
