For a quick demo of Kumospace, you can visit: www.kumospace.com
Please note that Kumospace works best on Chrome or FireFox, and does not work well on phones.
There are multiple ways to move around in Kumospace.
🖱️ Click with your mouse or 👆 tap on your screen to where you want to go and your video will move to that location.
⌨️ Use your keyboard's Up, Down, Left, and Right arrow keys. These keys will move you up, down, left, and right, respectively.
✋ On a phone or tablet, swipe towards a certain direction. This will move you in that direction.
The room has a welcome sign and drink tray. Pour yourself a glass of wine (click on the tray); it will last around 10 minutes and will help you keep track of time. You can have all the drinks you want from the different drink trays or bar carts available around the room.
When you're ready to move on, go to a conversation area (with sofas and chairs), where a poster presenter will be waiting for a chat.
The room has a chill area with music (piano at the back), where you can go to have a non poster related chat with other participants.
You can find several key features at the bottom of your screen, like the Chat, Camera and Microphone on/off, Exit Room button, and useful thinks like Settings and a Map of the room so you can navigate. Please be aware that Broadcast and Screenshare are only available to BURG2021 organisers.
Sound in Kumospace behaves like it does in real life. The closer you are to someone, the louder they sound. To interact with other researchers, you must get closer to them.
Mingle with the other participants.
Avoid huddling near the door. Explore the room!
Welcome new folks into the conversation.
Feel free to break off into smaller groups.
Say hello and goodbye to your host.
Most importantly, have fun!
Kumospace does not offer blurring your background. It does offer live captioning. However, to add live captions to your video chat experience in Kumospace, you must be using Google Chrome on a laptop or desktop computer. Go to Preferences in the Chrome drop-down menu and follow these instructions: click on ‘Settings’, ‘Advanced’, ‘Accessibility’, then activate the setting for ‘Live Captions’. Once this is done, Chrome will display captions at the bottom of your screen.
