The University of Sheffield is a globally leading research institution stemming from the foundation of Sheffield Medical School in 1828, Firth College in 1879 and Sheffield Technical School in 1884. Getting to Sheffield
Sheffield is accessible by plane, train, and car. Manchester Airport offers the most international connections and a direct train to Sheffield. Other airports like Birmingham, East Midlands, and Leeds Bradford also have good rail links. Trains from London, Manchester, and other major UK cities arrive at Sheffield station, which is near the city center. National Express buses and local buses also serve Sheffield, with the interchange being a short walk from the train station.

Getting around Sheffield
Sheffield has an extensive public transport network covering the city centre, suburbs and beyond into South Yorkshire, Derbyshire and the Peak District.
There are two bus stations located on Arundel Gate and Pond Street. Buses from these areas to the University take between 10 and 20 minutes.
Supertram, the tram network provides direct trams from Sheffield station to the University of Sheffield. They run every 12 minutes. From the station get on a Blue route service towards Malin Bridge and arrive at the University in under 10 minutes.
Sheffield’s local train network extends into the city’s suburbs across the rest of South Yorkshire and beyond. Other destinations include Manchester, Leeds and Lincoln.
