Citizenship Tutoring FAQs
Q: Sometimes, I tutor more than one student at a time, and some finish writing their spelling words or sentences much sooner than the others. Is it okay to move on to the next word before the last student finishes?
A: If the slower student needs an extra minute or two to finish, wait for them. But if that student is taking longer than that, feel free to move on to the next word or sentence.
Q: For the sentences that students are supposed to read out loud, should I ask all of the students in my tutoring session to read all of the sentences out loud? Or should I ask them to take turns (eg, have student A read sentence 1, student B read sentence 2, etc.)?
A: Ask each student to read all of the sentences.
Q: The tutoring sessions are scheduled to last 30 minutes. But if I haven’t finished a study guide after 30 minutes and my students are still in the session, is it okay to continue until we’re done?
A: As long as you and the students are willing to stay longer than 30 minutes, please continue tutoring until the SHC coordinator closes the session.
Q: When students type their spelling words or sentences into the chat during Zoom tutoring sessions, students sometimes copy what other students are entering into the chat. This becomes obvious when more than one student makes the same mistakes. Should I encourage students to do their spelling practice on paper?
A: Yes, feel free to request that students write their spelling words in a notebook.
