The Middle School Technology Elective allows students an opportunity to experiment and explore creative and applied uses of technology. With the lightning fast pace of technological change, it is important that students be able to teach themselves how to learn new technologies that they encounter.
Sacred Heart Cathedral School recognizes that the ability to utilize technology is an essential life skill.
Effective use of educational technology:
encourages and provides avenues for effective instruction;
stimulates learning, builds self-confidence, and inspires creativity and self expression;
permeates all areas of curricula and learning;
enables teachers to customize the curriculum to accommodate a variety of learning styles and abilities;
empowers students to access information which then must be analyzed, evaluated, and applied;
fosters higher order thinking skills such as problem solving, the forming of value judgments, and critical thinking;
encourages cooperation, communications, and collaboration between school, home, and the world community;
extends learning beyond the walls of the classroom and beyond the school day.
To accomplish these ends, all staff are entitled to and responsible for on-going training in educational technologies.
