Classroom Management Plan

Welcome to English Language Arts (ELA) 5-8

&

5th grade Science

Welcome to Mrs. Griffin’s classes! I look forward to having a great 2023-2024 school year. The years of Jr. High are full of changes, growth, transitions, and maturity. I hope to be a positive impact on the students and make the Jr. High transition a smooth one. Students are expected to follow the guidelines below.

Classes:

Mrs. Griffin’s classes will consist of 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.  All students will receive English Language Arts (ELA) instruction from Mrs. Griffin.  Students in the 5th grade will also have Science with Mrs. Griffin.

 Classroom Procedures:

Each student is expected to come into the room, on time, with all supplies needed.  Supplies needed daily are: textbooks, AR book, sharpened pencils, highlighter, paper/green notebook, green composition notebook, agenda book, and any other items specified for class.  Students that are not prepared for class will receive a strike. It would be very beneficial for students to have homework from other classes with them as well. There may be times when students will be able to work on homework for my class or another class when instruction is over.

I expect students to come to class with a positive attitude, ready to learn, and to be respectful of the teacher, their classmates, and themselves. It is extremely important that students bring ALL materials needed daily.

Students are expected to listen, take notes, participate in class discussions, and pay attention while instruction is taking place.  Interruptions and distractions are not allowed. Students may raise their hands to ask questions pertaining to instruction.

When tests are taken, all students must remain quiet and in their seat until every student completes the test.  If a student is talking during a test, they will receive a 0% on the test.

Behavior Management:

The Jr./Sr. High school implements a strike system to hold students accountable for their work.  Please refer to the student handbook for more in-depth explanations.

Assignments:

Students are required to turn in homework at the beginning of class, all completed, with their first and last name, date, and subject/grade level on the assignment.

* If an assignment is not completed entirely, then a zero (0%) will be given for the assignment and there will not be another chance to make-up the work. The student will also receive a strike for the incomplete work.

*If the assignment is partially complete (with some questions not answered), only what is complete is what will be graded, and the student will receive a strike.

*There is no mandatory study hall (MSH) this year to make up work or work for partial credit on assignments.

*Any work that is not completed in the students’ handwriting, is considered cheating and will result in a 0% and handbook procedures will follow.

Late Work:

If students are absent and the absence is excused, it is their responsibility to communicate with Mrs. Griffin and gather any missed work/tests. Students will have the number of days missed to complete work. For example, if a student misses 3 days, then they have 3 days to turn in the missed work, including current work.

If the absence is unexcused, the student will receive a 0% on all assignments for that day.

Please refer to the handbook for more information on Excused and Unexcused absences.

Grading Information:

Homework will count as 40% of the total grade. Tests/Quizzes will count as 50% of the total grade. Participation will count for 10% of the total grade.
