How Students Will Use Discord in the Workforce Gateway Internship (WGI)

During WGI, Discord will be our main communication hub. Students will use it to:

• Receive important announcements: Internship updates, reminders, deadlines, and event info will be posted in dedicated channels.

• Ask questions & get support: Get quick help from the Shared Lane team, providers, and peers — no waiting for emails.

• Connect with peers: Chat with other WGI interns, especially those placed at the same internship site or industry.

• Stay organized: Channels will be organized by topic (announcements, internship sites, resources, events), so information is easy to find.

• Build community & professional habits: Learn how to communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally in an online workspace — a real skill used in college and the workplace.

• A Secure Space for You: This Discord server is a private, invite-only community built specifically for you and the WGI team. It’s a moderated space where you can feel confident collaborating, knowing it’s reserved exclusively for our interns and staff.
