Here are the most common operations that are performed on a FreePBX phone system:
Dialing :
You do not need to dial any prefix or press any button to make a call, just enter the number and press dial.
If you enter a 7 digit number then the phone system will assume your home area code.
Although you can get dial tone first by picking up he handset or pressing speakerphone, it is more efficient to dial the number first and then press dial or speakerphone.
Once you have entered the number, you can press dial OR press the speakerphone OR simply pick up the handset to initiate the call
Transferring calls:
To transfer a call to another extension without announcing the caller, press transfer, then the extension number, then dial , then transfer.
To transfer a call unannounced to an extension that you have a hot key for, simply press the hot key.
To transfer a call to another extension and announce the caller, press transfer, then the extension number, then dial , wait for the recipient to answer and when you are ready to complete the transfer then press transfer. If you would rather retrieve the call, press the illuminated hot key next to your extension.
To transfer a call directly to another extension's voicemail, press transfer, then * followed by the extension number, then dial , then transfer.
Voicemail:
To retrieve your voicemail, simply press the envelope symbol on your phone. (This is the equivalent of dialing *97)
By default, you will not be prompted for your voicemail password when you call the voicemail system from your extension.
You may access any voicemail box by dialing *98 and entering the extension and password.
The default password on any mailbox is the same as the mailbox number. (This should be changed during initial mailbox setup)
Your handset should have a voicemail indicator lamp to indicate new voicemail (This is a red strip above the screen on Cisco SPA phones)
Unscheduled mode change:
The PBX should switch between office hours, after hours and holiday hours automatically.
On some phones, this is indicated with a hot key which can also be used to toggle the mode temporarily (until the next schedule event)
To temporarily toggle the office hours/after hours mode, dial *271
Additional useful info:
To disable Call Waiting (so that you don't hear a beep from additional calls), dial *71 (To reactivate, dial *70)
To park a call, transfer it to extension 70# The system will return a "parking lot" number which can be called from any extension to retrieve that call.
