Easy remote access is probably the most requested function by our customers. Traditionally we have been able to satisfy this by configuring Microsoft's built in remote desktop functionality. (We pride ourselves on doing all the complicated configuration in the background so that actually using the feature is easy).
Once setup is complete then accessing a remote / office PC from virtually any device is as simple as clicking on an icon.
Recently with the rapid rise of phishing email scams, unauthorized remote desktop access has increased dramatically. This in turn provides a pathway for criminals to install ransomware into a network.
The results of having ransomware released even on a backed up small business network can be at very least crippling, if not devastating.
Fortunately there is a great solution for small businesses in the form of Duo Security.
Duo (a subsidiary of Cisco) has a product which adds a second layer of authentication to remote desktop connections by prompting for permission on a designated mobile phone. This makes unauthorized access all but impossible.
We have installed this product on numerous networks and it works flawlessly.
In companies where there are less than 10 remote access users, the product is actually free.
