8th Grade Reading/ Writing Workshop

We will work to become readers and writers who:

• are more independent and can self assess progress.
• transfer skills and strategies learned in RWWS into other 8th grade classes.
• ask questions and use available resources when work becomes difficult.
• read books they enjoy and become more confident writers.

Supplies

To get the year started, students will be given the following supplies:

Reader’s & Writer’s Notebook:

• Used to take notes for each unit

• This will be kept in the classroom.

Flying Lessons and Other Stories:

• A collection of short stories that will be used to apply reading skills and strategies

• This should be brought to class every day, once it is handed out.

Self-Selected Independent Reading Book: 

• A book read for pleasure and used to apply reading skills and strategies

• This book should be brought class every day
