What are we up to?
The Whitfield Home & School Association (WHSA) is an organization whose goals are:
to provide diversified educational and social programs to students,
to contribute to their safety, and
to be a liaison among faculty, administration, and families.
Our programs and activities aim to enrich your child’s educational experience beyond classroom learning.
Throughout the school year, we will update this website with event information, fundraiser details, and opportunities to get involved.
Meeting Times / Location
WHSA meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month from September through May in the school library at 3:45 pm.
New attendees are ALWAYS welcome and encouraged to come to WHSA meetings.
Volunteers
If you have an hour of free time during school, after school, or in the evening, please consider participating in one of our many worthwhile activities. There are many varied opportunities throughout the school year. We all want our children to have a rewarding and enjoyable elementary school experience. You can help make that happen, and your child will appreciate you for it.
Visit our Volunteer Resources page for information.

The Artist in Residence Program brings a professional artist to the school to work with all the children during their art classes to produce a permanent project for the school.
Alternating with the Artist in Residence Program, the Author/Illustrator program brings an author or illustrator of children’s books to our school for storytelling, and question and answer assemblies with all the children. This program is coordinated by our school librarian, Ms. Schultz.
This lively evening is one of our most popular events! There are pizza, hot dogs, refreshments, baked goods, and of course, BINGO! The kids love the terrific prizes, so when the flyer is sent home, order your tickets early because they sell out quickly, as space is limited. Reach out to whitfieldbingo@gmail.com with any questions!
Our two annual events are week-long fairs with BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS! The book fairs are held the in the fall and spring. Both events require the help of many parent volunteers, from setup until tear down the following Friday afternoon, with shifts being only 1 hour long each. Ms. Schultz is the chairperson.
We host three in-class parties throughout the school year: one in the fall, one in the winter, and one around Valentine's Day. There are 1-3 parents per classroom who provide crafts for the students during the party, while the WHSA provides the snacks and drinks. If you are interested in helping in the classroom, fill out our Volunteer Information form, and someone will reach out to you.
Every year, the children are given the opportunity to make the holidays special for those less fortunate than themselves. Food and gift card donations are collected by each class, with the total amount collected announced to students at an assembly in December. Donations are distributed discreetly to Whitfield families identified by our school counselors. For more information, please contact whitfieldhsa@gmail.com. Information on the program is sent home in early December.
We offer beautiful poinsettias for sale in time for the winter holidays with pick up at our Holiday Shoppe event. Information on ordering is sent home in early November.
Held on the first Saturday in December from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m., this is an opportunity for the students to shop for family and friends. The event features craft-making stations, special appearances of visitors from the North Pole, the Candy Cane Cafe serving hot beverages, and a bake sale. The holiday plant pick up is at this time, and book fair gift certificates are available for purchase. To help set up or volunteer, please contact Ms. Huff.
Throughout the school year, our Hospitality committee coordinates food and refreshments for various functions throughout the year. Donations are graciously accepted by dropping them off at the office (Attn: WHSA) or through PayPal; contact Ms. Bogert if you'd like to be part of the committee.
For volunteer opportunities, fill out our Volunteer Information form. Our Volunteer Coordinator is Ms. Bogert.
Each fall, we offer a variety of clothing featuring the Wilson Bulldog logo. Order forms are sent home in September. If you are interested in helping with spirit wear, email the WHSA officers.
Thanks to the generosity of our school community, we offer an allowance to professional full- and part-time staff to purchase any supplies they find helpful in their work.
The purpose of teacher mini-grants is to fund innovative projects or ideas. These grants fund materials, supplies, and other resources that may not be available in the classroom. With your support, teachers have established a Robotics club, a "We Can Build It" marble-racing club, and have provided sensory equipment for our special education classrooms.
The annual memory book, available for purchase at the end of the school year, includes photos of all the classes, group photos of activities, and candid shots of the students on the playground. If you are interested in helping with the production of the memory book, contact WHSA officers.
