Units of Study Reading Workshop- We use the Lucy Calkins reading workshop as our reading curriculum. This program focuses on improving reading skills for both literature and nonfiction texts. While reading literature, students will work on word solving, vocabulary development, envisioning, and prediction. While reading nonfiction, students will work on identifying main idea and details, recognizing text structure, comparing texts, and thinking critically about the text.

Eureka Math –fourth academic year in use; grade-level topics are approached for mastery
Topics: place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, time, geometry, area, perimeter, fractions, liquid volume and mass, data
Basic facts – addition /subtraction facts will be reviewed daily; multiplication/division will be introduced later this year (flash cards will come home for study purposes) – strong fact fluency allows for a deeper development of other math skills
Homework – math homework is assigned daily to revisit, practice, and enrich concepts based on informal assessments in class; a technology component to practice further at home.
Technology - we will also be using Zearn, Xtramath, and 99Math, to name a few, to enhance our learning outcomes
In third grade, students will study geography, world cultures, Native Americans, Colonial America, pioneers, and immigration, economics, and civics and government.
We use Mystery Science curriculum for Science in Third Grade. The major topics that we will cover this year are "Fossils and Changing Environments", "Life Cycles", "Heredity, Survival, and Selection", "Weather and Climate", "Forces, Motion, and Magnets".
