Reading:

• • Reading Workshop will follow the Lucy Calkins model.

  • We will focus on four units of study:

  • Interpretation Book Clubs: Analyzing Themes

  • Tackling Complexity: Moving Up Levels of Nonfiction

  • Argument and Advocacy: Researching Debatable Issues

  • Fantasy Book Clubs: The Magic of Themes and Symbols

Writing:

• • Writing Workshop will focus on process writing based on the Lucy Calkins model.

  • Our units of study will include Narrative, Information, and Opinion Writing.

  • The intent is to support students’ abilities to be strategic writers who use particular processes to achieve particular purposes as writers.
