According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, a speech-language Pathologist (or SLP) is an "expert in communication." SLPs work with people of all ages, from babies to adults. SLPs evaluate and treat many types of communication and swallowing (in specific instances) challenges. These include problems with:
Speech Sounds
Language
Social Communication
Voice
Fluency
Feeding and Swallowing
Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT)
SLP's can be found in a variety of different settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, private practices, schools etc... where their roles are different.
Here in the school or educational setting, SLPs work on communication challenges that impact a student's access to their educational environment."
