What is ESL/ELL?
ESL stands for English as a Second Language, and ELL stands for English Language Learner.
Students are identified through a Home Language Survey and state language screening. Once identified, students receive language support to help them succeed in the classroom.
We support students in:
Understanding academic vocabulary
Writing in complete, grade-level sentences
Reading and discussing grade-level texts
Listening and participating in class
Communiting confidently with peers and adults
WIDA Levels:
Students fall between Levels 1-6:
1-2: Beginning
3-4 Developing
5-6: Expanding to Bridging (Exiting the ESL program)
Every student grows at a different pace. And that's okay!
