Students will not be able to retake a quiz. Students are given a study guide/review sheet the day before every quiz and test. If the student is absent on the day of the review, they must complete the review activity before they are able to attempt the quiz or test.
Summative assessments in alignment with the Pennsylvania Department of Education seek to make an overall judgment of progress made at the end of a defined period of instruction. They occur at either the end of a school level, grade, or course, or predetermined points within the course. They are designed to produce clear data on the student’s accomplishments at key points in his or her academic career. Scores on these assessments are statements as to whether or not the student has fallen short of, met, or exceeded the expected standards.
Middle School Retake Procedures:
Students will be allowed to retake summative assessments based on the following conditions*:
Students may retake an assessment only if they scored lower than 90%.
The higher score will be the documented grade in the teacher’s grade book.
The maximum score resulting from any retake is 90%.
Retakes may be taken with teacher discretion of what sections of the test the student needs to retake.
Students will complete tutoring/conference session(s) with the teacher prior to retaking the summative assessment. The student may be required to complete any additional assignments given at the teacher’s discretion, including previous missing or incomplete class assignments.
The retake assessment must be different in questions but equal in rigor. The structure of the assessment may change at the teacher’s discretion. Example: multiple-choice exam to essay or multiple-choice exam to student interview.
Assignments such as essays, research papers, multi-step projects, labs, and other performance assessments with multiple check-ins or assignments that have segmented due dates may not be available for retakes. Teachers reserve the right to make changes to the retake availability on these items based on individual student needs.
