Weather Unit

Students will understand that…

  • There are different types of weather that can be observed using our senses.

  • Measurement, records, and tools help us predict weather and make decisions about our daily lives.

  • The weather system can be described by specific observable variables, including temperature, cloud cover, wind speed, and precipitation.

  • Water exists in solid, liquid, and vapor states. Clouds and fog are made up of droplets of water.

  • Data can be collected on patterns and changes in weather to help us understand the effects on people and other living things.

Plants and Animals Unit

Students will be able to...

  • Observe and describe the characteristics of living and nonliving things.

  • Observe and describe the characteristics of plants and animals

  • Make comparisons between living and nonliving things as well as between plants and animals.

  • Explain what plants and animals need to live and grow.

  • Observe and describe plant growth.

  • Observe and discuss the habitats of living things and how their needs are met by their environment

Social Studies

Students will be able to...

  • Identify reasons for rules and laws in a school & community

  • Understand how one’s actions affect one’s community

  • Explain why government is necessary

  • Identify American symbols and holidays

  • Explore different customs and cultures

  • Discuss the contributions that individuals and groups made in American history

  • Identify and discuss cause and effect in historical events

  • Explore different occupations found in our world

  • Discuss the role of services in the economy

  • Begin to locate information on maps and globes
