The drama department aim is to provide students with the opportunity to study in a professional environment that fosters creativity, commitment and achievement. We believe each student is capable and motivated to participate in a course of study that is conservatory style in nature and will encourage young artists to honor themselves, their voice, and the voices of others. Students explore movement, speech, improvisation, acting, directing, technical theatre, design and theatre studies. It is our goal to develop in students an appreciation for drama and theatre as both a process and an art form.
This is a program where the students will have the chance to be in a production on stage and to work collaboratively with other students. A.A and T 15 and 25 allows the students to explore different characters on stage in a performance and to be directed by the 35 level students. A.A. And T 35 is a chance for the student to direct a one act for the Ainlay One Act Festival.
The Technical Theatre program is specifically designed to meet the needs of students who wish to participate in the backstage, design, and theatre management aspects of a theatre career. The program provides practical experience in lighting, sound, set, costume, props, rigging, and more. These essential skills are taught and practiced throughout the execution of our production season including lunch. one acts, and many school-wide events.
Throughout the Technical Theatre program, students:
develop an appreciation and an understanding of stagecraft, costuming, make-up, lighting, sound, rigging, stage management, and house management through the practical experience of main stage productions
develop artistic communication skills to effectively collaborate with other directors or designers
portray a knowledge of historical period and style through conventional theatrical techniques of design
develop proficiency in rendering techniques, set construction, scene painting, lighting and sound design and operation
become familiar with the industry standards and procedures to research and secure job auditions and interviews
