STAGE ONE

Long Tone Challenge

Hold a single note for at least as long as the times listed below to earn 5 points. Times are in seconds and are based on specific instruments and grade levels. If a student is able to complete a higher grade's challenge they can earn double the points for each level up from their own.

eg. a grade 7 student plays the grade 8 level and earns 10 points; a grade 7 plays the grade 9 level and earns 20 points! For grade 9 potential bonuses see below

You must hold a Concert F at a mf dynamic with good tone for the minimum times (seconds) listed. Record a video of your long tone using the Flipgrid link HERE.

You can use the online stopwatch to time yourself.

**Percussionists must perform a steady, consistent buzz roll for the duration of their time.

STAGE TWO

Rhythm Challenge

Correctly transcribe (write down) the rhythms and sing them back on counting numbers using the FLIPGRID link.

For each correctly written rhythm - 5 points

For each correctly sung rhythm (on counting numbers ) - 5 points

Earn 5 bonus points per rhythm if you can successfully transcribe and/or sing rhythms from the next level up. Grade 7 students who complete the CHALLENGE level can earn 10 bonus points per rhythm for completing work two levels above their own.

eg. a grade 7 student who successfully transcribes AND sings all three level 2 rhythms would earn 30 points (5 for each written and sung rhythm) AND 30 bonus points (5 for each).
