Sports Teams Offered At A. Blair McPherson

October to March

Student athletes train throughout the indoor season during the winter months and compete in both the Running Room Games at the University of Alberta Butterdome and the Harrier Races at the kinsmen. Practices are in the mornings.

OPEN TO ALL ATHLETES GRADE 1-6

September and October

Student athletes race in open air races of varying difficulty from a distance of 1km to 3km depending on the age of the athlete and the particular race. Athletes are placed in teams which could include boys and girls, grade or skill level. Athletes compete both individually and collect points as a team. Practices and competitions are after school.

OPEN TO ALL ATHLETES GRADE 7-9

September and October

Student athletes’ tryout for the soccer teams and if they make it, participate in an inter-school schedule and compete in tier two of the Edmonton Public Schools Junior High League. We have both a boy's and a girl's team. There will be two practices and one game per week throughout the schedule.

OPEN TO ALL ATHLETES GRADE 7-9

September to December

Student athletes’ tryout for the volleyball teams and if they make it, participate in an inter-school schedule and compete in tier two of the Edmonton Public Schools Junior High League. We have both junior boys and girls teams (grade 6-8) and senior boys and girls teams (grade 8-9). There will be two – three practices and one game per week throughout the Schedule Plus tournaments on the some weekends.

OPEN TO ALL ATHLETES GRADE 7-9

December to March

Student athletes’ tryout for the basketball teams and if they make it, participate in an inter-school schedule and compete in tier two of the Edmonton Public Schools Junior High League. We have both junior boys and girls teams (grade 6-8) and senior boys and girls teams (grade 8-9). There will be two – three practices and one game per week throughout the Schedule Plus tournaments on the some weekends.

OPEN TO ALL ATHLETES GRADE 7-9

March to May

Student athletes’ tryout for the badminton team and if they make it, participate in singles, doubles and mixed doubles in either the junior or senior division of the tier two Edmonton Public Schools Junior High League. There will be two – three practices and one competition per week throughout the schedule.

OPEN TO ALL ATHLETES GRADE 7-9

May to June

Student athletes’ tryout for the football teams and if they make it, participate in an inter-school schedule and compete in the Edmonton Public Schools Junior High League. There will be one boys and one girls team consisting of grade 7-9 students . There will be two – three practices and one competition per week throughout the schedule.


May to June

Student athletes’ tryout for the cricket team and if they make it, participate in an inter-school schedule and compete in the Edmonton Public Schools Junior High League. There will be two – three practices and one competition per week throughout the schedule.

Track and Field – April to June

The Track and Field program is integrated into the grade 7 - 9 Physical Education curriculum. In May, a school-wide track meet takes place at Foote Field or Rollie Miles Field. Qualifying athletes then move on to the Zone track meet against other schools in zone D and then may even move on to City Championships. The season runs from mid-April to early June.
