All-State Auditions

HOW will students audition?

Students will record auditions one-on-one with Mrs. Gibson. (No audience, no pressure! 😊) Students will wear headphones to hear the recorded track, and sing in response to the cues on a microphone.  The audition is approximately 4 minutes. They may re-record multiple times if needed. 

WHAT is tested in the audition?

The audition is composed of 4 parts:

1. Vocal Exercises

2. Tonal Melodies

3. Partner Song 

4. Vocal Performance

We will practice each of these components at home and at school.

WHEN will students record their audition? 

Monday, September 22 - Wednesday, September 24 after school by appointment

Practice daily!

• Practice regularly with the audition track below. (Download and turn it on in car, while doing chores, right after finishing homework - become familiar with the cues and timing!)

• When your student is confident with the music, practice listening to the track through headphones while singing. (This can feel like a completely different experience for some children!)

• Open practices will be held at 8:00-8:35 a.m. on the following days. Meet Mrs. Gibson at the back gate at 8:00 a.m. (Late arrivals enter through the office.)

  • Other brief rehearsals may be held during the school day as class schedules permit.

A panel of adjudicators will review all auditions. All-State Chorus members will be announced on October 11, 2024. Students who are selected for the chorus will pay the additional fees for the music ($35) and FMEA Conference fees ($75) and begin preparing for the rehearsals and performance on Wednesday, January 8 - Thursday, January 9. 

Keep in mind that thousands of children audition each year, and the final results are often surprising - even to teachers with years of experience! Regardless of the outcome, the audition process can be a valuable and motivating experience for young singers. Each of these musicians is exceptional - congratulations on your invitation to audition!
