The Induction Ceremony will be held at the beginning of the second semester. Sophomores and above reaching the following requirements will be invited at the beginning of the 2nd semester to join NHS. If you receive an invitation, follow the directions on the invitation to be considered for membership.

Member Eligibility:

  • Candidates eligible for selection to this chapter must be members of the sophomore, junior, or senior class.

  • To be eligible for selection to membership in this chapter, the candidate must have been enrolled for a period equivalent to one semester at Titusville High School.

  • Candidates eligible for election to the chapter shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.8 on a 4.0 scale.

  • Upon meeting the grade level, enrollment, and GPA standards, candidates shall then be considered based on their service, leadership, and character.

  • Students are required to have documented hours of community service and demonstrate leadership through previous positions that they have held formally or informally, either in school or the community.

  • A student’s discipline and behavioral history (9-12) will be a part of the review process.

  • A student who is not selected for membership in the National Honor Society may appeal the decision of the faculty council. The student must contact the advisor in writing within five school days of notification of non-selection. The faculty council will then revisit their decision and may ask the student to appear before the council. If, after reviewing their original decision, the council still feels that the student does not meet the criteria for selection, the faculty council’s decision may be appealed to the building principal within five school days. Due to timing, appeals may extend beyond the induction date.

  • Scholarship
Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative GPA of 85, B, 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent standard of excellence. (Each school chapter is allowed to require a higher cumulative GPA.)

  • Service
This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.

  • Leadership
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

  • Character
The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.
