Edwardo
Frederick Edwardo, a foreign exchange student from Russia, traveled a long journey in hopes for a better life and to put his abilities to good use. He had the best natural athleticism to be seen in centuries. RBU offered a full ride scholarship for long distance running. Frederick had been searching for years to find a college in a different country and had never heard of RBU. He was given a flight without knowing where it was located straight to the college. When he arrived he knew something was different.
“Where is this school located” Frederick asked the woman at the front desk.
“This place is wherever you wish it to be”
Frederick, puzzled by this answer, began to walk to his dorm room. It was room 431 the polite young lady said.
“Hello, are you new here?” said a strange looking man. Fred couldn’t describe exactly what was strange about him, but he was strange nonetheless.
“Yes I am looking for room 431.”
“Just your luck I am your new roommate”
“I wasn’t told I was to have a roommate. I was supposed to get a dorm to myself.”
The strange man looked at him which sent shivers down Fred’s spine. The man started to mumble under his breath and his whole body started to shake. The ground rumbled and with a sudden POOF the man turned into a toaster. Frederick, confused, walked right into his room to lie down for a while. He ended up sleeping through the whole night waking up around nine the next morning.
“Good morning”
“Where is this voice coming from” said Frederick
“Over here”
“WHERE?”
“I'm over here on the counter” exclaimed the toaster.
“Oh, how did you become this, I saw you transform.”
“If you don’t accomplish your goals you will become a kitchen appliance.”
Fred thought he was hallucinating so he disregarded the toaster and its statements. Fred went on with his day and got ready. He had his first practice at 10:00. Practice is very important because the college team had the national tournament coming up in a few weeks. This was very important to him because if he performed well he may be able to get to go to the Olympic Trials. Fred went on with his schedule of waking up, going to practice, going to school, and then resting. The next day Fred arrived to practice to be pulled aside by coach Dom.
“I have noticed your amazing athletic abilities and how much you have been trying and I want to know what your goal is and the purpose of this dedication”
“I have realized I have talent and I want to become the best and the fastest athlete at the national championship.”
“You have the ability to achieve your goals, you just need hard work and dedication, and don’t mess up.”
After this conversation Fred felt something strange, it felt as if a spell was being cast upon him. Maybe this feeling was excitement or desire to reach his goals. Or maybe it was fear of not being able to succeed. Not knowing the feeling, he didn't stay on it for long. He felt an urge to work harder and strive for his goals.,He went home to rest for the night
“Hello” said the toaster
“Oh not you again” exclaimed Fred “I thought you were a figment of my imagination.”
“Nope, just remember what I said, it will be the most important thing you know”
Fred stayed up all night thinking about what the toaster had to say.
Thoughts were running through his brain. Is what the toaster said real? If I don’t succeed will my life be ruined? What will I turn into? Is this the end? Fred didn’t sleep all night, devastated by what may happen. He went to practice with weary eyes and slow movements. He ran but he wasn’t as graceful and resilient as he normally was. He wasn’t prepared for what was to happen. His muscles were not normal because they had no rest. Pain shot through his whole body as he crashed to the ground mid run.
“AGGGHHHH” Fred screamed
“Whats wrong” asked Coach
“I think I tore a muscle in my leg”
“Will you be able to compete in the championship? “That's your most important goal” “I'm taking you to the emergency room to check up”
In pain Fred whimpered “I will try my best” knowing well he would not be capable of completing his goals. The voices in his head were saying if you don’t compete you won’t achieve your goals and you have to face the consequences. Fred woke up in an ambulance.
“How are you doing” Coach asked
“I’m in a lot of pain. I feel it all through my legs.”
“The doctors said your recovery will take about three weeks at the least so I don’t believe you will be able to compete.”
Three weeks later
“The first race will be starting in five minutes” proclaimed the announcer.
“Damn” mumbled the coach “Freds not going to make it
“ Coach!” exclaimed Fred
Fred was able to make it on time to the race but something seemed off. He looked tired and in fear. He got ready and made it quickly to the starting point. He heard the crowd's electric energy and was prepared for anything. The excitement was coursing through his body but in the back of his mind he had the fear of being hurt again.
Fred heard his coach yell “Hey kid, be safe out there”
At this point there was not a single doubt in his mind that he wouldn’t succeed. He was prepared for it all.
When he heard the announcer say “ On your marks, get set, go.” there was no better feeling. Fred was back to what he loved, which was competing. Time felt slowed down as everyone raced forward. The crowd was chanting and cheering for everyone. Fred was ahead of the rest of the racers but one of them was gaining on him. Fred and the others made direct eye contact knowing whoever won this race would get fame and glory.
Through everyone Fred could hear his coach yelling at him “Focus kid I believe in you, achieve your goals.”
Fred thought back to the toaster and the goals. He was distracted and let the other racer slip ahead but he quickly regained consciousness. The finish line was within 10 meters of them so the pressure was on.
YOU NEED TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS!
IF YOU DO NOT FACE THE CONSEQUENCES
These thoughts were consuming him. Fred was able to slip in front with 3 meters left but all of a sudden he felt shaking as the racer slipped ahead and in a loud explosion a refrigerator appeared. Fred was nowhere to be seen. There was smoke covering within a ten meter radius. People rushed in to find what had happened.
The coach ran over screaming “Fred! Fred!”
“Coach im here, I completed my goal, I completed what I wanted”
