even though we are so close to the end of the year, please encourage your child to work independently and diligently on all assignments.
The 5 Science Research classes are now competing in the Plant the Moon Challenge, hosted by the Institute for Competitive Science. Which was presented to SMMS students through a grant awarded by the Florida Space Grant Consortium. Students had to replant their projects are in grow season until April 24th. Wrap up videos and data presentations to showcase their work are also due soon.
Some return students have been able to get a start on next year's research adventure and rewrite research plans now. Students working with sea urchins, cray fish, daphnia and slime molds are slated to submit research for approval. Students approved will begin testing before the start of summer!
The chickens have hatched and out of 24 eggs, we have 8 chicks. Out of the 8 duck eggs, we have 1 baby duck. Names have been a constant conversation and many nick names have emerged. Chicken Joe, the first hatchling, is a very vocal and active member of our classroom lately.
We have begun daily reviews and activities to prepare for the state science test.
PLEASE check FOCUS daily to monitor your student's progress and missing tasks. Items with a 0 are complete, but items with an NTI are still needing to be turned in.
History
This is it! The Final stretch. We have just finished our trip the Moore Museum and we learned a lot. We will be completing our unit on the Civil War, ending on reconstruction and getting ready for a well-deserved summer vacation. Keep your notes together to study for the course Final Exam, and review old quizzes in google classroom as you may be seeing some familiar questions on the final!

Your Teachers' Hope
It's time to say goodbye,
This is the end of the year,
We think we have something in our eye...
No, it's just our tears.
We've watched you learn and grow,
and change from day to day.
We hope that you have come to know,
Something to guide your way.
So we will treasure happy memories
as we send you out the door,
hoping you have the expertise,
to handle what life holds in store.
