What is Scouting America?
Scouting America (formerly the Boy Scouts of America) is a youth organization committed to preparing young people to make ethical and moral choices throughout their lives, instilling values based on the Scout Oath and Law
.
Here's a breakdown of what Scouting America does:
Character Development and Leadership Training: Scouting America aims to build character, citizenship, and personal fitness through activities like camping and community service.
Values-based Education: Programs instill values such as trustworthiness and bravery, based on the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
Outdoor Activities and Exploration: Traditional outdoor activities like camping and hiking are central to Scouting. Scouting America also operates four high-adventure bases for specialized programs.
Programs for Different Age Groups: Programs are tailored for various ages, including Cub Scouting (K-5th grade), Scouts BSA (6th-12th grade), Venturing and Sea Scouting (ages 14-20), Exploring (ages 10-20), and STEM Scouts (STEM learning).
Community Service: Service to others is a key component, with initiatives like the annual Scouting for Food drive.
Youth Protection: The organization prioritizes safety through training, background checks, and policies like the "two-deep leadership" rule.
Scouting America is more than camping trips and merit badges — it’s a life-shaping program that builds character, responsibility, and leadership in the youth of our community. Our local troop is home to tomorrow’s leaders: future teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, first responders, and service members.
Running a quality scouting program takes resources — for camping equipment, scholarships, uniforms, transportation, leadership training, and community service projects. Many families need financial support to ensure their Scouts can fully participate. With your help, we can make Scouting accessible to every child who wants to join.
