Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society is the only national organization for high school juniors and seniors that recognizes excellence in the field of Social Studies.
Rho Kappa provides national recognition and opportunities for exploration in the social studies. The National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) hopes to encourage an interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for the social studies through the creation of Rho Kappa.
Satellite High School's chapter of Rho Kappa was founded in Fall 2021, the first in Brevard County!

According to Rho Kappa:
Each candidate for membership shall be selected to a designated chapter of Rho Kappa based on the following criteria:
Have been in attendance at the school in which the chapter resides for the equivalent of one semester prior to being considered (If a special or unique circumstances merit, the high school administration may waive the semester requirement, providing a letter of explanation to the National Advisory Council).
Have completed four semesters of courses in the field of social studies and be prepared to complete at least six semesters. The minimum grade point average for these courses is an unweighted 3.00 or the numerical equivalent.
Have an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 or the numerical equivalent (Individual chapters may choose to increase the GPA requirements for their chapter but may not decrease them).
Additionally, members will be required to complete 5 service hours by the end of the academic school year. Students will also pay a small induction fee upon application acceptance.
RHO KAPPA OFFICER POSITIONS & DUTIES
The officers of the Honor Society shall be:
President – (Seniors only)
Vice President
Event Coordinator (partner eligible)

Treasurer
Public Relations Officer & Historian (partner eligible)
The duties of these offices shall be as follows:
The President* of this Honor Society shall be responsible and held accountable for the following duties of the society: coordinating meeting dates, appointing committees for projects, mediating between the members and the adviser, and making sure that the meetings and projects run smoothly by carefully tracking the progress and timely completion of tasks that have been assigned to other officers or members. In addition, the President shall be responsible for meeting weekly with the Sponsor to address issues as they arise & for drawing up the agenda for all meetings, including meetings of the officers, which shall be approved by the sponsor & circulated in advance. Perhaps most importantly , it is the job of the president to follow up and to make sure that all officers and members are completing their duties and assigned tasks on time and in a thorough, professional manner, and to make adjustments as needed to ensure successful outcomes.
The Vice President* shall be responsible for all duties of the President when the president in not able to perform the duties of the office, as well as alerting the President and adviser of new projects/events, and keeping track of attendance at each meeting, and participation in events. In addition, the Vice President will post accurate records related to attendance & event participation of members in a timely manner. It will also be the duty of the Vice President to remind members of the requirements to remain a member in good standing, and to communicate the consequences of any lapse to the relevant member.
The Treasurer shall be responsible for all club monetary functions. This person shall keep track of the dues owed by each member, as well as keep track of any projects or events that may need financing by the club, for the club. In addition, it will be the duty of the Treasurer, in consultation with the Vice President, to communicate deadlines and consequences for failure to submit dues on time.
The Secretary shall be responsible for circulating approved agendas for all meetings, recording the minutes and decisions made at each meeting, keeping track of all club projects, making sure that all members are alerted of meetings, reminding officers and members of agreed upon deadlines and duties, and anything else deemed necessary by publishing & circulating meeting minutes and by issuing reminder communications. The secretary will also maintain the official organization calendar published on the website & ensure that the website it keep up to date with current & accurate information.
The Event Coordinator shall be responsible for creating, planning & executing events by working with the President to organize event committees, by managing and executing said events, and by documenting said events for future reference. Such documentation should including the creation of notes/files to help in the planning of future events, such as suggested timelines and ways to improve the process for future similar events. The event coordinator will manage sign ups and record attendance & participation in various events in the absence of the Vice President.
Public Relations Officer & Historian shall act a liaison between the organization and the school media (school newspaper, Wolfcast, yearbook, etc.) and with the the outside media as needed with the approval and support of the sponsor. He or she shall be responsible for ensuring all organization events, activities and meetings are announced and well promoted throughout the school and community. In addition, he/she shall photograph or arrange photography for all organization activities & develop a scrapbook/historical record of the members & activities of the organization, as well as maintaining a bulletin board on campus to help promote the organization and its activities or events. The public relations officer will also be tasked with maintaining the organization's social media accounts & in coordination with the Secretary will develop & promote the online presence of the organization.

Committee Chairs shall be appointed as needed & shall be responsible for coordinating committee meetings and events in collaboration with the Event Coordinator, taking notes at and/or posting summaries of all committee meetings, taking attendance at all committee meetings and events, posting all committee meetings and events on the Rho Kappa calendar, communicating all committee events to the officers, including the Public Relations Officer, so that he/she can coordinate school announcements and notifications of yearbook, school newspaper, etc.
