We finished everything! I am so proud of how well our group worked together. We put all of our effort into this film, from the filming, to the editing, and finally the production. Even when times got hard, which they did especially towards the end when we changed our whole film, nobody ever gave up. We were initially very worried about changing our idea so last minute, but it was 100% worth it! Below is a list of the camera shots we included in our film.

I have finished making our creative reflection! I noticed that a lot of people in the class chose to do videos, so we wanted to think of something that would stand out amongst the crowd. That is why I decided to construct a collage that answered the essential questions through pictures. However, just having the pictures with sort caption proved to not be enough, so I decided to do a voice-over as well explaining each specific aspect of our film. It was difficult at first trying to find the best way to screen record our project in order to zoom in on what we were talking about. However, after some trial and error, I was able to figure out how to easily create the video. I think that my creative reflection accurately and efficiently provided answers to each of the questions in an in-depth manner.
We are feeling a lot better now about our film! The scenes flow so much more smoothly now, and the premise makes complete sense! We were definitely all a lot more motivated and excited following through with this concept instead of our previous idea. We have now officially filmed all of our scenes and we are nearly done editing as well. The last and finals touches are under way such as adding in the credits. I think our excitement towards this idea is what really helped us complete this in such a short amount of time. We relate so much to the film, to the point that it didn't really feel like we were acting. One problem we had with our previous film, was we didn't know how we would develop the storyline past the two minutes if we were to actually produce it as a film. However, with this film we would love to develop it further!
So... we have made a lot of changes regarding our film. In other words, we have changed the whole premise of our movie. As a group we decided that our previous concept was too hard to develop in such a short amount of time. We were worried that there were too many gaps in the storyline, which ultimately led to a storyline that was hard to follow. With that being said, we chose to make a movie that was more engaging for both us as well as the audience. We thought of a coming of age/indie film that followed a friend group through their last summer before senior year. During the production process of our film we were able to utilize a broader range of filming equipment such as our phones, a tripod, and a digital camera. We created a shared notes entry that we were able to add shared ideas onto. In the same way, we were also implementing many different camera angles that increase the quality of our movie.
We have taken a bit of a hiatus from filming/editing out film. In class, we have specifically been focusing on our case studies as well as the influence of media in society. We were researching how people in powerful positions can have an impact on what is shown in media. However, we are planning to start editing our film very soon!
My group just finished re-filming some of the scenes that were previously hard to hear because we had technical difficulties with the microphones. The new shots are now much better, as we made sure to utilize more camera angles and techniques to create a dramatic effect. We played around with various ways in which we can incorporate interesting sounds into our film that would further enhance the storyline. We do however still have to re-film the scenes with Dustin, who plays Josh, because he was not free the day that we were filming.

As we approach midterms, I am feeling pretty good about where my group is at. We filmed all our own original scenes, and included may different variations of diegetic sound. We also wanted to try and use as many different elements of media as possible. We are planning on layering music from an acknowledged source on top of some of our scenes, as an example of non-diegetic sound. We applied many different camera shots within our film, which help to create diversity and engagement. Our film also passes the Bechdel Test with there being three female characters, and they talk about something other than men. I believe that so far, we have created a movie trailer that will prompt the audience to want to continue watching.
Our group has come to the conclusion, after reviewing our footage, that we need to re-film some of our footage. We could not get the microphones to work for some of the scenes, therefore the audio is not very good and it is hard to hear the actors' voices. It has been challenging to find another day where we are all available to film. With clubs and after school activites, each of us are very busy. However, we are thinking that we could film one day after school next week, and then begin to combine the clips to start the editing process.
My group and I have started filming for our movie! Getting into costume was so much fun, it felt like we were being transported back into the 80's! We utilized multiple camera shots that we learned about in class in order to better tell the story. We did have some trouble with the mics, and trying to get them to connect to our phones. However, we did eventually get one microphone to work, which greatly enhanced the quality of the sound. We have began discussing whether or not we should re-film some of the scenes because the audio is hard to hear. We do still have to combine all of the clips together to determine whether or not we have gone over the two minute time limit. If that is the case, we'll have to either re-film the scenes to make them shorter, or cut out unnecessary footage to shorten the clips.
Our most recent class project was a sound project. We each had to film a video individually, however, the video had to be silent. From there, we had to choose one of our classmates videos and find sounds that could be used to tell a story through the video. In my video specifically, I tried to incorporate scenes that had distinct sounds to go along with them, making it easy for people to add sound over my video. I used Canva as an editing platform to implement sounds into the video. I also used multiple sound effect websites such as MixKit as well as PixaBay. I found this assignment to be very fun and engaging! I had a fun playing around with different sounds and learning how to layer sounds over the top of each other, fading noises together, and building suspense through sound. I edited Solana' s video which had an evident premise of a horror movie with a tone of suspense. Below is a link to my sound project:

Today in class, we made big advancements in our script. We are getting very close to being done and having a finalized version of our story, finally! We compared our schedules to see what day would be best for all of us to begin filming and we decided on Saturday of next weekend. We are incorporating props in our movie that are accurate to the time frame. For example, we are using both a cam-corder and cassette to relay the time period to the audience.
Today in class we started to discuss a date that would work for all of us that we could begin to film. The premise of our story has remained relatively the same however we are having trouble establishing the setting. We are having a hard time maintaining contact with the owners of the restaurant so we think it might be best to just film at Solana's house so that it is accessible to everyone. Therefore, we will now have to make a new storyboard for the third time. We are also continuing to work on our script and starting to think about how we can create an impactful story that will leave the audience wanting to watch more in only 2 minutes. We are planning to start filming the Saturday after Homecoming week, which would be November 9th. We are making big developments in the specifics of our movie, such as the shot list and costumes. Shown below is our shot list so far:
SHOT LIST:
Establishing Shot
Handheld shot
Extreme Long shot
In class today we are trying to develop a title for our movie. We have to take into consideration all of the different aspects of our movie in order to determine how the title will relate to our storyline. We still are waiting to hear back form the owners of Hardees to determine if we can film there or not. If we don't hear back from her in a few days, we may have to come up with an alternate idea just in case plans fall through for our original movie.
Today my group and I finished working on our second story board. We initially made our first storyboard for our original concept, however because we came up with a new idea we had to make a new storyboard. In addition to that, we also started to further conceptualize our script. We are sill waiting to hear back from the owner of the restaurant as to if we can film in the facility or not. If we do get permission to film in the restaurant, we will most likely start filming next weekend so that we can be done by before Christmas break.
Today my group and I created a google document where we all are writing down the fundamentals to our movie. We firstly wrote down the location where our movie will primarily be filmed at. Secondly, we decided who will play what character and what the name of that character will be. We are still working out the specifics of our movie, such as what car will our antagonist will drive as they are creepily following behind us or how we are going to establish an eerie setting through lighting. The main task, however that we are going to work on next is the development of the script.

We created a new story board that further develops our new storyline. In relation to that, we also started to think about what are costumes are going to look like, as well as our characters hair and makeup. We were thinking that we could crimp our hair and utilize classic 80's accessories such as scrunchies and bright neon colors. Solana asked her friend if we can film in the Hardees restaurant that her family owns because the building has not been remodeled so it looks like it is from the 80's. Her family said yes and so now we are going to start filming at that location possibly this weekend or next week.

Today my group and I presented our 12 shot short film. We utilized a book from within the library to convey our story. Our storyline, admittedly, is a little bit confusing until you get to understand the backstory. Our "film" begins by showing an up-close shot of the yearbook where character one is pointing at a specific person; foreshadowing that this person may have some significance in their life. Then, the next slide, is introducing the first character and isolating her from the rest of the group. We then observe her from an upper-levels shot envisioning that she is writing what is shown in the book, "What are you doing here?" She then gives the note to the person shown in the yearbook; however as character 2 is reading the note the person who gave it to them disappears. The person then puts a hex on character 2 and turns her into a doll to get her out of her life. We had a lot of fun expressing our creative liberties and getting to play around with different camera angles, filters, editing etc.

My group and I have come up with a new concept for our movie. Initially, we were going to do a sort of 80's horror movie based around the central idea of someone getting lost in the backrooms of a mall after getting off of their shift; only to find that a killer is on the loose. However, after some conversation we decided that the plot would be too predictable and that the storyline would be too hard to develop. With that being said, we did still keep some of the original aspects such a the fact that the movie is based in the 80's and that the main characters will be a group of teenagers who will just be getting off of work. We came up with the idea to film in our local Hardees restaurant because one of our group members knows the owners and the restaurant looks like it has not been remodeled, so it would be perfect for supporting the 80's aesthetic. We also have access to an old Ford Mustang that fits in with the theme. For the costumes of the teenagers getting off of work, we decided to take inspiration from the famous 80's movie, Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Today my group and I began to develop our storyline. We came up with plot twists and ways to build suspense within our movie. This will help with engaging the audience and prompting them to want to continue watching. We established the main characters in our story and very efficiently decided who will play each character. The theme of the movie has also been decided to be suspenseful and dramatic. We have also reached out to some people asking if they would be able to star in our movie so that we have more characters.
