AVID is an accelerated college readiness class that prepares students for admission to four-year colleges and universities. For one period a day, students receive the additional academic, social, and emotional support that will help them succeed in their school’s most rigorous courses.

AVID students reflect and question while mastering content rather than just repeating and memorizing. Our students work together to problem solve and to change the level of discourse in the classroom as they prepare for success. Students are taught to articulate what they don’t understand and learn how to seek out the resources they need. By teaching critical thinking, inquiry, and self-advocacy, AVID students own their learning.

All students need to learn how to learn. Note-taking, studying, and organizing assignments are all skills that must be taught and practiced, but are not explicitly taught in schools. With guided support, AVID students learn how to master these and other academic behaviors that will help them succeed in school and life.

The AVID student is one who can achieve in a rigorous curriculum with support from the AVID Elective class.

Each AVID applicant, along with a parent, must participate in the AVID interview process. These interviews will take place April 16 and 17, 2019 in our media center in 10-minute increments from 5:00 - 7:20 PM. Scheduling is not necessary; simply come at a time that is convenient for you.
