Mission Statement
The mission of the Coquina Elementary Library is to provide students with the opportunity to become lifelong seekers of knowledge and information. Students will use the library as a place to become curators of information, acquire digital and literacy skills, and develop the 4 C's of education, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity.
We are proponents for our students and programs.
We provide instruction, aligned with standards and promote a global perspective.
We provide equitable access by developing a diverse collection and creating a respectful environment for all.
We are leaders of digital and media literacy. We provide training, ethical use and continued support for all learners.
We embrace a growth mindset though reflection and innovative practices.
Elementary Library Policies
Students attend library class for story time, information literacy skills lessons and literacy lessons. We follow the BPS curriculum for Media and Information Literacy Skills. We have lessons, work on research skills and projects, conduct book talks, digital skills, current events and more!
Students may check out up to two (2) books!
The expectation is that students read the books they check out. They do not have to return them all at once, they can return them as they complete each book. They should finish reading each book before returning it to the library.
Books are due back in 2 weeks. If a student has overdue or lost books, they will not be allowed to check out books until the book is returned, replaced or the fine is paid. School Board Policy: parents and students are responsible for school materials.
Students and Parents can see checked out items and fines by using the Destiny App and late and/or missing notices go home as necessary.
Good Health Protocols
To Keep Everyone Safe, these protocols are in place.
Expectations:
Hand sanitizer will be available for students to use upon entering, before touching books and upon leaving.
Cleaning products are available to wipe down tables.
Students are expected to bring their computers and library books to media.
