How does Brevard Public Schools define blended learning?
The Clayton Christensen Institute is a leader in blended learning research and in "disrupting" traditional education. From their extensive research with schools, teachers, and students, the Christensen Institute has defined blended learning as follows:
“Blended learning is a formal education program in which a student learns at least in part through online learning with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace and at least in part at a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home.”
BPS Instructional Technology has adopted this definition to guide instructional practices in technology integration and blended learning in Brevard.
Blended learning techniques can be used to effectively manage and implement differentiated, standards-based experiences for students. Going blended is more than just technology.
Who should be using blended learning techniques?
Blended learning techniques are encouraged for all teachers in every classroom situation, including eLearning, brick and mortar, and hybrid classes.
I have heard different terminology for online learning. What terminology is BPS using?
Blended learning techniques should be used by all teachers regardless of teaching situation.
E-Learning - Students are staying at home and connecting remotely to their classes in a synchronous model
Brick and Mortar - Live face to face instruction
Hybrid - Classes that have a mix of e-Learning and brick and mortar students
I’ve created a product in one of my 3 selected courses. Where do I turn it in?
The inservice rep at your school will provide you with an implementation form. You can submit your coursework by putting a link to the work on the implementation form.
Who do I contact if I have questions about the courses?
You can contact your technology integrator through Microsoft Teams through chat or calls or through email. Your group integrator can be found on your group course page.
When will access to these self-paced courses close?
These courses will be available through August 21, 2020.
Can I continue to take these courses after the closing date?
The Office of Instructional Technology will continue to offer self-paced classes throughout the year. We will post the schedule of courses on our department website by August 21: https://www.brevardschools.org/Page/4811
I want to complete more than 6.5 hours of coursework? Am I able to do so? How do I receive inservice credit for the additional hours?
Between August 10 - 21, you can enroll in additional courses with the code if you choose, however, our office will not assign inservice credit for these courses. For additional inservice credit hours, you will need to reach out to your school based inservice representative. Alternatively, you can sign up for courses through our office after August 21. The schedule of courses will be posted on our department website: https://www.brevardschools.org/Page/4811
